you became the holy water

you loved the water.
there, your epilepsy was more controlled.

you always joked about dying before me.

imagined yourself
sleeping in the lake
& dreaming
your soul
was a fish.

//

the last day you dove beneath,

your feet kicked
like a torpedo to the bottom.

i waited like a lighthouse
for you to find the surface,
but moments turned into minutes

& your body became another shell
i picked off the bottom with my toes.
now when i go swimming

i can see your face

gliding along the surface.
