Laundry Boy’s Change: A Poem

The priest stepped up to the alter of clichés

Speaking with words that can collect African artifacts
Boxes of ideas hanging on the walls
A snake on the staircase
And a man at a table
                     reading
a book with his eyes closed
The child donated his change to chance
Bending over
Laughing profusely into the echoing well of truth
