February 2005

POETRY'S PROMISE OF NEW LIFE

February in the Northeast United States is a tease. Thoughts of spring trail every wintry blast of frostbitten air. Visions of renewed life bud on trees that impatiently start clothing themselves as the days imperceptibly lengthen. Hope is in the air – everywhere.

As poet George Monta writes in February’s Identity Theory poetry section, “Spring is tomorrow’s other
life.”

For three of the 15 poets included this month, that “other life” will burst forth from their books scheduled for release in the spring of 2005.

Featured poet Justin Evans awaits publication of his chapbook, Four Way Stop, by Main-Traveled Road Press. Along the Way, John McDermott’s first book is scheduled for release by Everyday Path Press. In March, Ausable Press will publish Lilah Hegnauer’s
collection, Dark Under Kiganda Skies.

While these authors eagerly anticipate publication, they can take comfort in another line from Monta’s poem, “Moment in Space”: “Relax your hurried pace;
tomorrow surely comes.”
