Snippets of Advice From an Old Southern Man

You can’t trust them girls partyin’
over there at the Salt Club, they’re just
drinkin’ champagne and tellin’ lies.

Maybe if you stop thinking
a hundred dollars is a lot of money,
you’d strike it rich.

Bein’ shallow is good
if you’re talkin’ about water,
and bad if you’re talkin’ about people.

What I mean is it’s a good way to catch crabs.

You see that streetlight
reflection on the channel? Long ago,
light only came from the moon,

but if you watch that spot
long enough, you’ll see a fish
jump up and catch a fly.
