Commentary in December
we live by the sound
blue gray green white caps
wave phenomena curling into every direction
dictated by wind
hidden beneath calmness...
we feed seagulls white bread crusts
Tibetan prayer flags dance their passage...
they are wind horses
we enjoy the inescapable pleasure of driving past
Tacoma Lawn Cemetery filled with season's drifting way
flowing, relaxing toward slow sure silence
and today right there - amplification
observed calloused hands removing
their youth slowly taking it apart
callous by callous
whorl by whorl
lifting heavy
plywood sheets from perfect
rectangular deep dug darkness (archeological find)
bordered by flowers bleeding red
graceful tents billowing
as caterers dressed in pure black
presumed gaiety and laughter
circled among the guests
offering them honey
Five (5) nuns committed suicide
at the #3 Drapchi prison outside Lhasa in 1998
after being beaten with wooden planks, belts
and rubber hoses filled with sand
for refusing to sing patriotic Chinese songs
they were allowed to attend to personal matters
and said they they were going to wash their hair
-singing among themselves
