Dear Faithful Identity Theory Readers,
We have for you this time an orgy of interviews, an endorsement
of Obama, an introduction of new staffers, and a chance to burn,
er, win, some autographed Richard Nixon paraphernalia.
If that's not enough, I could try doing cartwheels while screaming
your name to the tune of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold."
That might be a literary experience.
THE INTERVIEWS (LAS ENTREVISTAS)
In "Video Volunteers for Social Change," Elham talks
with Jessica Mayberry about a media initiative that empowers people
to take action on critical issues in their communities:

Ilana Trachtman, director of the new documentary "Praying
with Lior," chats with our man of cinema, Matt Sorrento:

Brooklyn artist Jane South, who makes Identity-Theory-colored art,
talks to our (my) girl, Alexandra:

I do the 12-questions thing with David Leavitt, author of "The
Indian Clerk," editor of "Subtropics," and head of
the writing program at the University of Florida:

The remarkably prolific Anna-Lynne Williams performs two very swell
music Q&As--one with Susanna Wallumrod and the other with Rio
en Medio:

WIN A DATE WITH RICHARD NIXON
In our new Identity Theory fundraiser, we're raffling off random,
semi-literary items, such as an autographed copy of Richard Nixon's
memoirs, a Powells.com gift card, several relatively new books ("The
Sky isn't Visible from Here" by Felicia C. Sullivan, "The
Fighter" by Craig Davidson, etc.), Identity Theory gear, and
more. It will be a completely mind-blowing experience, people:

Also, we'd like to thank our very awesome donors from the past
month who helped us raise a solid amount of starter money for this
year's ambitious Identity Theory projects.
YES. WE. CAN.
We at Identity Theory are excited to finally--for the first time
in our lives--have a major-party presidential candidate who is truly
presidential (i.e., Not Like Richard Nixon). A candidate who runs
a dignified campaign brimming with inspiration rather than desperation.
A candidate whom we trust to make wise decisions based on moral
courage rather than rapacious greed. A candidate who, unlike our
current administration, will neither use religion as a tool of manipulation
nor use fear as a tool of spiritual oppression. Read our full endorsement
of Barack Obama, complete with speeches and links, on the Social
Justice blog:

OUR NEW POSSE
We have added several new, friendly, non-smelly editors of all
shapes and sizes. They include interviews editors Alexandra Bullen,
Matt Oates, and Sherry Saturno; copy editors Stephanie Johnson and
Stacy Muszynski; and fiction editors Sumanth Prabhaker, Sarah Presite,
and James Warner. So far, they all seem to be real people instead
of email bots, which is a nice bonus.
Actually, now that I think of it, we are still looking for more
editors:

AH, BARTLEBY
We just posted this essay by Jon Thompson called "Melville
and Bartleby: Facing the End of an Audience." Mara, the nonfiction
editor, says: "Departing from the narrow, univocal authority
of most criticism, Thompson has bent the essay form, exploring voice
and narration to take on on Melville's challenge to the limits of
liberalism." Do with it what you will: http://www.identitytheory.com/nonfiction/thompson_melville.php
WHEN WE HEAR THE WORD "NETWORK," WE STILL THINK OF FAYE

UNSUBSCRIBE
Listen, buddy: the unsubscribe links below don't work. It is likely
that this will be the last email you receive from us that has dysfunctional
unsubscribe links. Really. We're switching to a whole new system
that helps us send fancy, colorful emails. Aren't you excited? I
am. Yes.
If you want to get off our mailing list, email me back with an
"unsubscribe" message. I will personally remove you from
the list and then write a song about how things went wrong between
you and me and how I wish I could win you back and maybe then I'll
start singing the songs on the street while begging for change and
then maybe I'll meet a girl who plays piano and then maybe we'll
record a few songs about you in which she sings backup vocals and
I'll hit on her but she'll say thanks but no thanks and then I'll
run off to London and God knows what will happen then. Maybe I'll
become famous or something. Yes. Fame. Money. Good times.
