Mike MaggioFeatured author for July 2001. Maggio on Identity Theory: "Underneath the Griffin Tree" | "The Herds are Charging Through the Room" E-mail: Mikemaggio@aol.com Mike Maggio has authored 3 works: a chapbook of poetry entitled Oranges From Palestine, published by Mardi Gras Press; Your Secret Is Safe With Me, a collection of poetry on cassette, published by Black Bear Publications; and his latest work, Sifting Through the Madness, a collection of short stories, published by Xlibris Corp. Sifting Through the Madness is a collection of stories that explore the complexities of modern society and lead the reader down paths rarely explored. While some have found these stories disturbing, others have called them profound and brilliant. From the lonely civil service worker who, on the day of his retirement, arrives home to find all of his possessions missing, to the crazed mother who sacrifices her children to a mysterious horde of wild beasts, each story confronts stark realities and leaves the reader wondering. Despite their harshness, they also exhibit a soft, dreamlike quality such as is found in "Atelier," the story of a working woman who becomes the subject of an artists obsessions. Previews of Sifting Through the Madness can be found in several places. "Underneath the Griffith Tree," a story of love and abuse, can be found on this web site. "The Men Have Come to Fix the Drain," a story of marital infidelity, told from the point of view of a young girl, can be found on the publishers web site, where the book can also be purchased. Other works by the author available on the web: "Oranges From Palestine," the title poem from the chapbook of the same name, can be found by visiting the authors home page. Other poems can be found by visiting www.worldpoetry.com, where the author also served as an editor.
