Charles Blackstone

Charles Blackstone's novel, The Week You Weren’t Here, came out in 2005. His short fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Bridge, Salt River Review, Black Ridge Review, Wazee Journal, Paste, Whet, and others. He is the co-editor of an anthology, The Art of Friction, which will be published in 2008. He lives in Chicago.


This blue light beams down
on her and washes over all of us—it’s hypnotic—it
takes on different shades: there’s brilliant and cerulean
and cobalt and phthalocyanine and ultramarine and caribbean and
a turquoise that reminds me of being five years old—all in
perfect accord with the pacing and rhythm of her voice.
