HoustonChronicle.com - Miami, Va. Tech strut on ACC's red carpetArkansas athletic director Frank Broyles thinks a Southeastern Conference team could be the next target of the ACC.
"I'd say the ACC will try and recruit somebody from the SEC, maybe Florida, Kentucky or South Carolina. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the ACC went after one of our schools, " Broyles said. Florida is a charter member of the SEC, and the powerhouse of what's considered one of the strongest football AND basketball conferences. Plus, the SEC has a well-established championship game for football. Oh, and the UAA isn't exactly hurting for money.
Kentucky enjoys being the top dog of SEC basketball (for now...) and could care less about football.
The ACC doesn't want Carolina and Carolina doesn't want the ACC. Their football's about on par with Clemson, despite Lou Holtz, and their basketball would get manhandled by Duke, UNC, NC State, Wake, and other ACC powers not in North Carolina.
Now, as for Arkansas, well, they could possibly run with ACC football, and they do have a basketball tradition. But I, an avid SEC fan, often forget they're in our conference - imagine how the casual fan feels. How about they go to the ACC and the SEC picks up South Florida? Everybody wins, except the ACC, because they would get Arkansas' bonehead AD.
I still think that UF, FSU, UM, UCF, USF and 3 of the minor universities should form the Big Florida conference. It would be to football what the ACC is to basketball. And UF would always get an automatic berth to the NCAAs.

Transcript From University of Miami Press Conference:We have nothing but the highest respect for the great universities of the Big East and their leaders. I, particularly, want to thank Chancellor Shaw and Father Leahy each of whom have shown leadership, patience, and understanding. They are two of the most outstanding leaders in higher education. We are reluctantly accepting the ACC invitation without them.
We accept the invitation from the ACC with enthusiasm.
